We have found some truly talented women this year. We love when our readers recommend artists that they want to share, and we love hearing from the artists themselves! Meet Shelley, in her own words:
From an early age I was always drawn to art. My earliest memories include drawing, coloring, and creating in an effort to express myself. As an artist, I draw inspiration from the day to day and a love of good music. The spark of memories, feelings, and emotion lead my work. Never one to be pigeonholed into one type, my paintings are a range much like emotions. One painting can be layered and complex and the next could be light and minimal. I enjoy deviating from one technique to the next as to not get bogged down in the same thing allowing myself to explore. I freely approach my work, making my own rules. I try to not take myself too seriously, leaving room for creativity.
A native of South Georgia, I moved to Atlanta after completing college. I met my husband Andrew through mutual friends and returned to school at Mercer University to obtain my Masters in Education. I was a Kindergarten teacher at a local private school for several years, which I loved, especially the art lessons! In my spare time I could be found painting. After having our second child, I became a full time mom and artist. My husband and I reside in Buckhead with our three young girls.
