Sara Willis Art

We love when we discover an artist via Instagram and they turn out to be local to the Carolinas. On top of that, we love it when the stars align and that very same artist is willing to participate in our Artist Spotlight series - enter Sara Wills! We discovered Sara when we were perusing the Cotswold Marketplace Instagram and knew that her work would be a hit with all of you. We were especially drawn to the beautiful mixture of colors in an abstract form and know it would be that special finishing touch to your homes.

Here’s more about Sara in her own words:

Sara pulls from her Carolina roots for art inspiration. After her studies at The College of Charleston, she headed to New York City where she enjoyed a 13 year career in advertising and public relations holding positions at Madison Square Garden, NY Times Magazine Group and Parents Magazine. Returning South with her husband and two children, she found a new creative outlet through painting. This was not surprising as she is the youngest of four sisters, all of whom are artistic in their own right.

Working out of her home studio in Charlotte, NC, she enjoys working in both oil and acrylic mediums. Her landscapes reflect her love of the abundant beauty of the Carolinas and surrounding East Coast. She also creates abstract expressions where the focus on the play and movement of the paint becomes a time for experimentation and exploration.  "I want the viewer to feel an immediate sense of place, or perhaps nostalgia, and with that, hopefully a great memory comes attached."

Staying close to home this past year brought memories & dreams of past travel to a series called  "Hibernation".  These abstract pieces were created with many layers built up over time allowing the underlayers to shine through and give them a luminous quality.  I love seeing the past history of the canvas come to life as the paint is manipulated with each additional visit.  I’m so grateful to have a home studio which gives me a place to “let it all out” during this crazy year we’ve all experienced.  With the arrival of spring and hope on the horizon, thankfully, there is a sense we have light at the end of the tunnel!

If you’d like to work with Sara on an addition to your art collection, please contact her via her website or email her directly.

Sara has generously offered to give away a beautiful piece that’s included in her Hibernation series, entitled “Botanical Garden,” a 10x10 mixed media piece in a poplar floating frame. To enter the giveaway, please visit our Instagram!
