Budget Shelf Styling + 6 Tips to Fill your Space

Whether you are filling out shelves, a console, or a coffee table, finding the right additions without breaking the bank can be a struggle. Not many of us are willing to spend $200 on a vase that is JUST ONE item on a set of shelves that we need to fill. Here’s a few tips that help us
Our Tips:
Stick with neutrals and woven textures, then add some color!
Pick a theme - creams, white, woven and green is a good staring point. Pick a metal that you like and be consistent: are you a gold lover or is it a more casual space where bronze or tin would look perfect?
Don’t be afraid of unusual objects — hang a small mirror on the edge of the shelf or add a dainty piece of art to the back. Look around and see what you have - books, planters, small frames, jewelry boxes.
Make sure to have some variety - texture, shine, geometry
Vary the scale and height - some small items, some larger
When in doubt , group things in threes! Three books, three similar vases, three baskets in various shelves - this is one of the first rules they teach you in interior design school. The human eye enjoys groupings in threes.

TJMAXX is one our tried and true shops (Not just for snagging those work flats on sale anymore!!!). You can get coffee table books for a STEAL. Things do sell quickly though - so if you’re wavering, know that you can return to a store or online. We really believe TJs has the best quality for a great price.
West Elm has been adding more fun decorative objects, so be sure to check this out seasonally for items that go on sale.
CB2 has majorly been on our radar lately. This one is a current fave, and this sculpture is the perfect price for a large size.
Tip: Try searching Decorative Objects or Decorative Accessories on your favorite retailer to save some time searching.
H&M Is one our our favorite spots to find affordable items for shelves and coffee tables. When we found out they had home, we freaked out. Their inventory of home moves pretty quickly, so we love to check back frequently, and be sure to sign up for emails to receive coupon codes to save even more. This is a great store for those more modern inclined homes, but can also be mixed with traditional pieces.
Below are our current favorite H&M decorative objects from their home line.
